Electronic Surveillance
Electronic surveillance is the use of electronic means to secretly observe or listen to a person in the hopes of obtaining evidence. Electronic surveillance includes wiretapping and electronic eavesdropping (e.g., accessing email, instant messages and VoIP communications). Following the attacks of September 11th, U.S. law enforcement agencies have had more power to legally tap into private electronic conversations for the purpose of derailing further terrorism against the United States.
